Mole, Mochipet, Warrior Queen: FREE "Multimedia Maxi-Single"
What the heck is this “multimedia maxi-single,” you ask? It’s awesome!!
Th’ Mole’s JUMP JACK single features Mochipet, Warrior Queen, DJ Amazing Clay and Bearmod, and includes three MP3’s, a music video, and animated GIF cover art.
Turbo-powered “future rapper” Th’ Mole refers to Jump Jack as “exercise music.” “It’s something to work out to,” he says. “Something to get your blood pumping, to make your muscles big and get you in shape.”

Originally hailing from Jamaica, Warrior Queen is known primarily for her work with the widely acclaimed The Bug (Ninja Tune). She has an extensive body of work in dancehall, garage, dubstep and beyond, including collaborations with Skream and DJ Zinc. She has voiced the iconic Bug single “Poison Dart” as well as the stunning album track “Insane”. The Bug and Warrior Queen are currently completing a series of US dates with Nine Inch Nails. myspace.com/thewarriorqueens
Mochipet, AKA David Wang, runs Daly City Records and endorses products such as M-Audio and Puma. He is currently working on several new projects including ones with Joyo Velarde, Lyrics Born, Antipop Consortium’s M. Sayyid, and Chicago’s MC Zulu. DJ Amazing Clay, whose DJ career stretches back some 27 years (circa ‘Planet Rock’, an early staple of Clay’s sets), founded ‘Equipe Curtisom Rio’ ‘ one of Rio’s earliest funk sound systems. Until his recent collaboration with Th’ Mole (remixing “Go Horsie”), Clay’s definitive production work has remained almost completely within the Brazilian baile funk scene, gracing recordings by Mr. Catra, Deize Tigrona and MC Dido, flanked by the unparalleled baile funk label, Man Recordings. myspace.com/djamazingclay
Bearmod (AKA Blingmod, Briefcase Rockers) hails from Hawaii but resides in Montreal, hanging tough with the Turbo Crunk crew, making people dance to the rocket-powered bleep hop, all in the name of love. He and Th’ Mole met long ago when they were aimless young punks in Hawaii; now Bearmod regularly rocks crowds alongside such acts as Megasoid, Lazer Sword, Hovatron, Lunice, and more. For Jump Jack, Bearmod remixes the track “Heart Phire” (from the forthcoming album), transforming it from a hillbilly stomper to a city-slick stepper. myspace.com/bearmod
Th’ Mole has been spinning his weird web since the 90’s, jumping from the Bay Area to Hawaii to New Orleans and beyond, meanwhile running his own record label, Motion Recordings, and releasing music under a number of aliases. Th’ Mole’s music has been released by numerous indie labels (Hectic, Zhark, Anti-Party, Vaatican, etc.), and he has performed all over the world, sharing stages with such notables as DJ Krush, Venetian Snares, Living Legends, Meat Beat Manifesto, and more. Whoop-tee-doo!! On March 10, 2009, Daly City Records releases Th’ Mole’s Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 album. myspace.com/themole

New/upcoming Mole stuff
Check out the spicy new promo shots. They’re just in time for the upcoming single featuring Mochipet, Warrior Queen, DJ Amazing Clay, and more, available February 10 right here on this blog!
Following that, on March 10, Daly City Records will debut the Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 album. Check out what people are saying about it:
This time when Th’ Mole pops out of the hole, his trademark goofy hip hop grin bares some teeth, even as his heart remains firmly on his sleeve. Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 is Th’ Mole’s Daly City Records label debut. A combination of classic tracks, re-recordings, and new material, the elements converge to make his strongest and most personal collection thus far.
As a producer, The Mole manages to create a sound that is aggressive and fluid all at once; it’s the bombastic sound of the apocalypse, but with an over-riding feel of hopeful carelessness rather than one of desolation. In “Don’t Be Sad, Nothing Matters,” a warm classical flamenco guitar is stunningly contrasted with electrified beats, while a voiceover reassures us that we have nothing to fear “as the world plummets”. “Jump Jack” – an irresistibly-catchy dance jam that also features ragga vocalist Warrior Queen – continues the theme as he commands us: “Fuck the world! Just jump up off it… and do your dance.” Faced with the onslaught of depressing current events and trends, Th’ Mole has taken on the role of comforting father on a sinking ship.
His skills as an emcee have grown stronger than ever, as evidenced by the new remake of “Caitlin,” a signature song of his that tells a touching, apologetic tale of childhood playground betrayals. On the other end of both the lyrical and vocal spectrum is “I Hate You,” a reflection on love-gone sour, sung over a piano-plunk loop that could have been taken right out of Peanuts. “I baked you a cake and I don’t even cook. I’ll never bake another fucking cake ever again. And by the way, sometimes your breath stinks. And you’re fucking insensitive. Bitch.” It’s hilarious, and if you’ve followed Th’ Mole’s career, it’s also a jolt; the remorseful Mole of “Caitlin” is now calling a girl a bitch? In a lot of ways that sums up the Mole of 2009: ideals of love or society have been destroyed, and he’s mildly pissed about that. Charming humility is replaced with an inspiring sense of entitlement: he’s done asking us to see a better world; now he’s gonna build one whether we like it or not.
Overwhelmingly, however challenging the message, sheer fun still rules Th’ Mole’s self-made universe. The production is impeccable, the vocals and lyrics are dizzyingly creative, and as he manages to stamp a smiley face on everything, he creates an improbably refreshing sort of emo-comedy. Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 succeeds in being Th’ Mole’s most cohesive and satisfying album yet. To ice the cake, the Tick Tick Blam EP (included as an MP3 CD-extra, along with an exclusive music video) features remixes from the likes of Mochipet (Daly City/Bpitch Control), Robot Koch (of Jahcoozi, Kitty-Yo/Rough Trade), acclaimed Brazilian baile funk producer DJ Amazing Clay (Man Recordings), Bloody Snowman (Daly City), and Preshish Moments (Daly City).

Th’ Mole “Jump Jack (ft. Warrior Queen) makes Chrome Kids “Top 20 Chart”
BTW, did you miss Th’ Mole’s free Whirled Fusion mixtape? LegendaryHipHop.com says “This is a wicked album, an eclectic deejay mixup of varying types of music put together delicately into entirely new compositions by DJ 0.000001. It’s really cool, ’cause it all runs together and sounds great. It doesn’t sound like your typical artist mashups and more like original songs based on other songs… I don’t know how to describe it, really.” Get it HERE!
RIP Charlie Cooper =( Sad.
Charlie Cooper, one-half of Telefon Tel Aviv, has passed away at the age 31, it’s been reported.
The cause of his death is still unknown, but bandmate and friend Joshua Eustis left the following message on the band’s MySpace page.
“It breaks my heart to inform you all that Charlie Cooper, my better half in Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away on January 22.
We have been friends since high school, and began making records together a decade ago. We have been so fortunate to tour the world together, while at the same time having a massive amount of laughs at one another’s expense.
Aside from Charlie’s singular genius and musical gifts, I can tell you that he was a total sweetheart of a guy, and a loving friend and confidant to people everywhere. His musicianship was surpassed only by his greater gift to the world—his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those he loved. In the spirit of honorable mention, however, I should mention that he had a shoe collection that was marvelous, knowledge of hip-hop that was profound, and knowledge of wine that was subtle.
He is survived by a sister, a neice, a nephew, his mother, his stepfather, me, and more adoring friends than the Universe has dark matter. As such, his family and I ask for your discretion and consideration of our privacy during these extremely turbulent waters.”
More details as to the cause of his death will follow in the coming days.
Update: According to a CBS Chicago article, Cooper went missing last Wednesday night, after an argument with his girlfriend, and was found Monday in the Near Northwest Side neighborhood in Chicago. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of his death.

Yes, as promised, Daly City is, once again, offering to save some of you poor, unfortunate wretches from the doldrums of society by propelling you into glamorous stardom where you can bask in the limelight alongside Mochipet, Warrior Queen, DJ Amazing Clay and Th’ Mole!
Whoever makes the bestest remix of Th’ Mole’s “Heart Phire” song will be prominently featured on a super-cool free maxi-single hosted by Daly City, and whoever makes the most beautifulest cover art… you guessed it – they will be featured on the cover. Runners-up may also be included on the single or future releases.
Download the acapella vocals here (right-click or ctrl-click…) [130 bpm wav 17.8 MB]
Listen to the original version here Th’ Mole “Heart Phire” (snippet). (From the forthcoming album, Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1, on Daly City Records February 2009.)
Guidelines:
-Post MP3’s or graphics as comments or e-mail to jonah[dot]themole[at]gmail[dot]com by January 20, 2009.
-Winner/s will be chosen based on Th’ Mole’s personal judgement. Points will be earned for balance of extremes, unpredictability, and goodness. (To really understand what rocks Th’ Mole’s ear and eye, check out the Whirled Fusion mix/thing.)
-Remix winner/s will eventually be asked for high quality versions of instrumentals and vocals as separate files – wav or aif.
-If desired, cover art may include some variation of the title Th’ Mole “Jump Jack (Mochipet Remix)” featuring Warrior Queen …or simply Jump Jack.
-Also for cover artists, the theme of the title song relates to jumping around, freaking out, and having a good time despite whatever heckish situation one may be in. And it relates to the virtues of physical exercise.
"Earning my Honey Badge," or "Puff, Puff Passing in Namibia."
The Honey Badger (Mellivora capensis), also known as the Ratel, is a member of the Mustelidae family. They are distributed throughout most of Africa and western and south Asian areas of Baluchistan (eastern Iran), southern Iraq, Pakistan and Rajasthan (western India). It is the only species classified in the genus Mellivora and the subfamily Mellivorinae. They have been named the most fearless animal in the Guinness Book of World Records for a number of years.
This little guy wanders around aimlessly looking for something to eat. He lives off of the scraps of other animals. He does this until he finds his Honey Guide.
Honeyguides are named for a remarkable habit seen in one or two species: they guide humans, and possibly other large mammals (such as the Honey Badger) to bee colonies. Once the mammal opens the hive and takes the honey, the bird feeds on the remaining wax and larvae.
This little bird waits until she sees a Honey Badger near by. Then she swarms on him, flying around his face, bothering him greatly. He tries to swat her away but she doesn’t give up. Eventually a natural instinct kicks in and the Honey Badger decides to follow the Honeyguide. She leads him to a bee hive.
The Honey Badgers hide is impermeable to Bee stings. His only vulnerable area is the tip of his nose. So the Honey Badger can easily rip open a Bee Hive and have a sticky lunch. But he never forgets to pay his Honeyguide. He leaves her a well rounded meal in return for her discovery.
You can watch the whole thing go down here in my new favorite movie, Animals are beautiful People.
