The purple-dinosaur-suit-wearing producer known as Mochipet is a week away from releasing his latest LP, Chicxulub (artwork above), for the 1320 label. Here, we have the record’s first single, an energetic slice of epic beat work that matches videogame-style arpeggiators (check the title) along with an over-powering breakbeat and a healthy dose of low-end rumble. Considering “Yoshi’s Dinosaur Egg Hunt” is only the second track of the album, which is said to serve as “the soundtrack for an animated novel in which the dinosaurs make their way through the impact of the comet believed to have destroyed them,” it’s safe to say that Chicxulub is going to be one propulsive collection of boom-bappery when it drops August 16.
Deceptikon featured on XLR8R!
XLR8R has made Kinyoubi a featured download on their site! They also had some nice things to say:
Deceptikon is a recent transplant to the Bay Area, and he’s brought with him a new album, Mythology of the Metropolis, from which “Kinyoubi” is taken. Thick, wet handclaps and deep kicks dominate the track’s percussive element, with an interesting move from a more dubstep feel to a slow-motion house beat towards the piece’s end. Starry main synths, gut-rumbling bass, and beautifully unintelligible vocals provide the melodic backbone of “Kinyoubi,” making for an exciting and versatile slice from this upcoming producer.
Th’ Mole On Tour, Making Noise
In the midst of a tour that will last through July and possibly longer, Th’ Mole has been making a mess all over the place. Not only has his album hit #12 on the CMJ charts and his single remained #1 on XLR8R’s MP3 downloads for nearly three weeks, he’s managed to get a ton of other press and new fans during his travels as well as recording a crazy new collaboration album, featuring a ton of the talented folks with whom he has encountered on the road. Including Baseck and Cristinky of Sonic Death Rabbit, amongst a host of others, the album is sure to be chock full of insane talent and an eclectic array of styles. (See below, as Michigan’s Myn Dwun records his crunk-ass verse about the value of hugging your friends, in Th’ Mole’s car!)
The busy little Mole promises to give us an in-depth recap of the tour (including the reason behind his getting turned away from the Canadian border) as soon as he has a spare minute, but for now you can follow his Twitter updates at twitter.com/thmole and see his upcoming schedule for the US and Europe at myspace.com/themole.
