BERLIN–Equinox Records is one of those truly rare breeds–a record label created by music lovers for music lovers. Known for its innovative musicians, its interest in discovering, building and supporting new artists and its international appeal, Equinox Records successfully proves that being signed to an European label is no longer a disadvantage for non-European artists.
Its impressive label roster tells no lies: Be it Glitch Mob founding member Kraddy, 2nd Class Citizen, who’s album A World Without, was just listed as one of the most important albums of 2009 on the renowned DJ Food blog, or Ceschi, who might to be known to some as a member of the Los Angeles based band Toca (who can be heard on the Project Blowed 10th year anniversary record), or Berlin local Playpad Circus, who already worked with Anticon and Berlin underground rap legend Audio88, they all trust label boss DJ Scientist. But Scientist is not just the man who runs Equinox and who makes sure that all these artists and many more get a chance to release their beautiful music, he’s also a well-traveled DJ–playing, for example, at the by now infamous Rap History parties at Bohannon–the editor of DEAD Magazine, and a gifted producer who is responsible for, amongst many other hits, Ceschi’s absolutely stunning track “Same Old Love Song” featuring 2Mex and Awol One (A fantastic sample, great drums and 3 rap artists in rare form = Possibly one of the best rap tracks released in 2009!). Also check out Ceschi’s amazing track “Count On It” if you got hooked. After the release of 2nd Class Citizen’s highly acclaimed album in 2009, a remix EP of Kraddy’s epic track “Android Porn” is next to be launched and will feature remixes by San Francisco’s very own Mochipet, Fulgeance and Playpad Circus plus the original track for the first time ever on vinyl. If you can dig that, then you should also check out Arcsin from San Diego, who released his killer EP “Uprock Citizen” as part of the Equinox 10″ series, Downbeat Junkie Deckard from Munich, IDM-Fusion mastermind Geste from Paris and electronic experimentalist Vangel from Toronto.
