SF music-maker and underground superstar DJ Mochipet,
aka David Wang, has toiled a Web designer, tug boat dispatcher and
jazz-radio record-spinner. Nowadays, judging from his Facebook
dispatches, the down-to-earth and friendly Daly City Records honcho seems to be getting a chance to do the do full-time, at home and abroad.
I
missed his Nov. 27 Petnation after-party, which promised Peaches vs.
Simian Mobile Disco vs. the Joker and special guests Mux Mool of
Ghostly International and Alex Pasternak of Lemonade. But it’s not to
late to get a dose of the ‘Pet (now at work on a new album) at this
week’s community-building event, a fund-raiser for artist Tak
on Dec. 10 at Roe. Wang’s Electric WhomMp runs off-leash with
Ultraviolet, ne Eva Lee, spinning dubstep, 2-step and drum ‘n’ bass;
Smasheltooth shaking it with dubstep, crunk and hyphy; Zombie-J
crunching dubstep, baseline and breaks numbers; Syd Gris sprinkling on
the house, techno and breakbeat; and Mancub pawing the breakbeat, funk,
and booty bass. The weekend starts on Thursday, obviously.
Electric WhomMp happens Thursday, Dec. 10, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., at Roe, 651 Howard St., SF. (415) 227-0288
